How does your dog smell? Very well, as it happens!
With up to 100 times as many olfactory receptors as humans, dogs use their sense of smell to ‘see' and interpret their world, just as we do with our eyes. A dog's keen sense of smell is helped by a wet nose which has a layer of mucus that absorbs some scent molecules more quickly, allowing even the faintest scent to be detected and followed. And it's not just specialist hounds such as gun, drug and bomb detection dogs that have this amazing ability. All dogs love to sniff out new smells and messages - their very own ‘p-mail'! - Your faithful friend can be taught to find those lost car keys, tell you if your food contains minute traces of nuts, or even locate a missing person, and in such a way that these ‘nose games' are great fun for both of you!

I could not read this book completely and it's only 72 pages. The author simply mangles the written word. Here's an example from the first chapter: "It is not beneficial for the dog to restrict herself to scents emanating from the ground, when she is able to receive much more information, especially as a dog, in most cases, is well socialised with humans and is familiar with - and probably even knows the meaning of - human pheromones." Say what???It was just torture for me to try to read this garbage. Besides the awful writing, the author does a lot of guessing; hypothesizing about how a dog's sense of smell operates and then saying "of course, this is purely speculation." I'm a professional dog trainer since 2002 and I have a low tolerance for both B.S. and bad language skills. Avoid this book. There are too many others on this subject to waste your time and money here.

Smellorama! Nose games for dogs edition by Viviane Theby Crafts Hobbies Home eBooks Reviews
This had wonderful suggestions for people who take their dogs who visit nursing homes, hospitals and schools. Games that are fun for the dog to play and fun for people to watch....
Very good dog-training book, practical, explains how-to, fun exercises. Lots of info. Discusses search harnesses and leashes. Helpful illustrations and photos.
I teach basic training and can't stress enough the importance of playing games with pups in order to develop strong bonds which later will serve any discipline. This book is a great step by step scent work book - clear and full of invaluable information. I give it 5 stars without hesitating.
If you love your dog, check this book out. Lots of information on how your dog's nose works and what to get him (or her) excited about using his (or her) superior sense. Great games to use to get you and your dog bonded and yet have fun.
Typos were frustrating. Info was at beginner level of training. Good ideas to get started but not real games but more like exercises.
Very much a real beginners book. Not for serious tracking people.
Nosework is becoming the Next Big Thing, I think, with dogs. It is also a valuable asset. I have had dogs that found missing cats (which involved actual tracking by an untrained dog) and dogs trained to track and dogs who watched others use their noses and learned from that.
Dogs can be taught to find and alert to almost any substrance.
This is a fun, easy way of introducting "Nose Work" which is a little different from regular tracking.
It has the additional advantage of usually being very exciting and self-rewarding for the dog.
